This is a 1976 Thunderbird Commemorative Edition. It is one of 32 special-edition Thunderbirds that were ordered by Ford's Cincinnati District Sales Office. The purpose was to celebrate the passing of the "Big Bird", which was due to be replaced by a smaller, less grand Thunderbird for 1977. None were sold outside the Cincinnati, Ohio and Charleston, West Virginia areas. |
Like all other 31 produced, this Thunderbird is Black with a silver half vinyl roof and a black leather interior. All Commemorative Edition Thunderbirds have gray glass moon roof and a trunk-mounted pseudo-spare wheel carrier, Convenience Group, Front Cornering Lamps, Steel Belted Radial Tires, Tilt Steering Wheel, Power Seat, AM-FM Stereo Radio, Protection Group, Wire Wheel Covers, and Tinted Glass. American Sunroof Company of Wixom, Michigan added the non-standard moon roof and "European Rear Deck" lid. Out of the 32 Commemorative Editions built and ordered by the Cincinnati DSO, 29 were sold in Ohio and 3 were sold in West Viriginia. All VINs have the prefix "6Y87A" and have consecutive unit number ranges of 132367 to 132377, 132739-132743, and 132807-132812. As of March, 2003 the only Commemorative Edition accounted for is Registry Number 56 (6Y87A132371) that belongs to Mark McRoberts. |
